Unicycle
Also called Monocycle
Unicycle is a balance discipline performed on a single-wheeled cycle with no handlebars. The artist pedals and balances at the same time, riding forwards and backwards, idling in place, hopping, spinning and mounting in different ways, on anything from a standard unicycle to a tall giraffe unicycle several metres high or an ultimate wheel with no seat.
It demands balance, leg strength, coordination and patience, as every movement is corrected through the pedals and the body. In the circus, unicycle is often combined with juggling, partner work, group riding or other skills, and it is a popular discipline for young performers and street artists.
