Community Guidelines

Last Updated: October 17, 2026

CircusConnect is open knowledge for the circus arts, documented by the people who practise, teach and love them. These guidelines explain how to contribute and how to treat each other. They are part of our Terms and Conditions.

1. Contribute Accurately

  • Describe what you know first-hand or can back up. When unsure, say so.
  • Credit the people who created or popularized a trick when that is known.
  • Propose trick names that are actually used, and explain where they come from. Vote for the name you believe is most widely used, not the one you like best.
  • Keep listings current: if your school moves or a class ends, update it.

2. Respect Other People's Work

  • Write in your own words. Text you add is published under CC BY-SA 4.0, so do not paste from books, websites or course notes unless their licence allows it.
  • Upload only photos and videos you made, or that you have permission to share.
  • Get consent from the people who appear in your photos and videos, and from a parent or guardian for minors.

3. Keep Safety in Mind

  • Include prerequisites, progressions and the spotting or rigging a skill needs.
  • Never present a dangerous skill as easy or encourage people to try it without a qualified coach.
  • Do not post rigging or safety advice you are not qualified to give.
  • Remember that the Site complements training; it does not replace it.

4. Be Respectful

  • No harassment, bullying, threats, hate speech or discrimination, in public content or in messages.
  • Do not impersonate other people, schools or companies.
  • Do not post other people's personal information (addresses, phone numbers, private photos) without their consent.
  • Disagree about content, not people. Name debates are part of circus culture; keep them friendly.

5. Honest Reviews

  • Review places you have actually trained at, worked with or visited.
  • Do not review your own school or business, or a competitor's, and do not offer or accept anything in exchange for a review.
  • Criticism is welcome when it is specific and fair. Personal attacks are not.

6. Jobs and Listings

  • Post real roles that you are authorized to fill, with honest pay and conditions.
  • Never ask applicants to pay to apply, audition or be considered.
  • Do not discriminate on grounds protected by law. Physical requirements must be genuine requirements of the role.
  • Use applicants' information only to assess their application.
  • No spam or unsolicited advertising in messages, listings or contributions.

7. Both Languages Are Welcome

Write in English or French. Listings and contributions are translated automatically and marked "Translated automatically" until someone checks them; improving a translation is a great way to help.

8. Reporting and Moderation

Contributions and new listings are reviewed by moderators before they are published. If you see something that breaks these guidelines, or receive a message that makes you uncomfortable, write to us at contact@circusconnect.com with a link to the page or the name of the member. Depending on how serious and repeated a problem is, we may edit or remove content, warn the member, or suspend or close their account. For copyright complaints, follow the process on our Copyright page.
