Fire Spinning
Also called Arts du feu, Fire Arts
Fire spinning is an object manipulation discipline in which the artist spins, swings, and throws props with burning wicks, such as poi, staffs, fans, hoops, and ropes. The flames trace circles, spirals, and trails of light around the body, turning the movement itself into the image.
It combines the technique of the underlying prop with strict safety practice, including fuel handling, protective clothing, and a dedicated safety spotter. Fire spinning is usually performed at night or in darkness, and is a striking feature of festivals, street shows, and circus acts.
